HILLSDALE, Mich., (Oct. 9, 2009) – Things picked up at the Cobra offices today after being dealt a tough hand by Mother Nature with the closing of the Branson (Mo.) USA MX National due to torrential rain and flooding.
First off, at the U.S. Open of Supercross’ Sunday amateur day in Las Vegas, dubbed the Amateur National Arenacross Championships, Cobra’s Ethan Mann (Vancouver, Wash.) led a King Cobra sweep of the 50cc 4-6 class main event. Mann was joined on the podium by Oregon’s Max Miller in 2nd and Ohio’s Jackson Thomas in 3rd. And in the 7-8 50cc division, Cobra’s Austin Black (Oregon) was victorious and flanked on the podium by fellow Cobra riders in California’s Zach Darnley (2nd) and Michigan’s Thomas Neumann.
“Our west coast guys were fortunate to have a roof over their heads at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Congrats to all the Cobra kids that raced the Amateur National Arenacross Championships – everyone at Cobra’s very proud of your efforts,” said Cobra’s Sean Hilbert.
Cobra’s headquarters received some more good news on Monday when it was announced that Cobra factory racer Stilez Robertson, who contests the 4-6 50cc class, was just named as AmateurMX.com’s “50cc Racer of the Year.” Robertson, who’s from Bakersfield, Calif., had ten major wins this summer and, on the AmateurMX.com’s scoring format, came away with 109 points – ten points ahead of fellow Cobra racer Jordan Bailey (2nd place in the 50cc RotY scoring). All-in-all Cobra racers swept the top 15 spots in AmateurMX.com’s 50cc season scoring poll.
In addition, AmateurMX.com named Bailey as one of its top ten overall amateur racers, ranking him an impressive 5th out of all the amateur classes. Robertson was ranked 10th.

“Congrats to Stilez and Jordan on that great award as well,” added Hilbert. “Both those young men have raced extremely fast this summer and represented the Cobra factory very well both on and off the track.”
Making the trip to Branson were the following Cobra riders. And though it’s not known when – and if – the race will be rescheduled, Cobra will look forward to seeing many of these fast kids over Thanksgiving week when the year’s final major amateur MX race of the 2009 season – the Mini Os - takes place at Gatorback MX Park in Gainesville, Fla.
